Debbie is a doubly qualified nurse who completed a BSc (Hons) degree in Nursing and Human Science in 1996. Working in critical care from 1996 until 2011 and moving from the UK in 2008 to live and work in New Zealand broadened her understanding of healthcare systems.
Since 2012 Debbie has led the Environmental Sustainability programme at CM Health after beginning a Doctoral study with Auckland University of Technology in 2012; scheduled to complete early 2020. Exploring sustainable healthcare practice and researching the outcomes of the organisations environmental sustainability and recycling programme, within the context of large scale organisational change management. By incorporating the elements of ‘green’ healthcare delivery with carbon reduction strategies, the impact of carbon intense activities are lessened in the face of growing economic, environmental and social issues. |
The Short History of the Sustainable Health National Network
During this talk an overview of the Sustainable Health Sector National Network (SHSNN) will be presented. The participants will learn how the network began, how the network fits in with to the Ora Taiao (NZ Climate and Health Council), what the network aims to do and ways in which members of the network work together. Participants will be provided information on how to join the growing SHSNN thereby more able to create the change needed to make the delivery of healthcare more sustainable.
